Stephanie and Jordan Tate, who both work at the packaging site, had their world turned upside down last year when their son Frazer was diagnosed with a condition meaning he needed extensive chemotherapy.

Despite having a leg amputated as a result of the treatment, he has since returned to school and is enjoying being back with his friends.

Race organisers Shaun and Anna Tobin led proceedings, offering an insight into the history of the race and emphasising the importance of supporting the local community.

Shaun said: “2024 marked another fantastic event, with record numbers of runners and money raised. A massive thank you to all of our runners, supporters and race volunteers. A particular thanks goes to Tata Steel UK and Runtech for once again sponsoring the day.  

“As always, every penny raised from the event will go back into the community and to local charities.

Incorporating every school in Port Talbot and Briton Ferry, the Wizards League is a competitive league run by Aberavon RFC, involving classroom sessions focused on healthy eating and wellbeing, as well as rugby and netball skills sessions. It all culminates in league games and a one-day tournament - the Tata Steel Cup, in March.

The league has been running since 2010, providing opportunities for more children to be involved in sport, with every team receiving free kit and access to resources.

Reflecting on the visit to Tata Steel’s largest distribution and processing facility, she said: “I grew up around here so it’s been interesting to see what goes on inside the plant – I did not expect the scale of the operations I saw; the technology, the robots and the highly skilled workforce that are really valuable for Wolverhampton.
