Body-in-white lightweighting is driven by reduced CO₂ emissions. Our range of advanced high-strength steels, have the ability to unlock lightweighting potential – by enabling the use of higher strength steel in more components.

Over the past 20 years, the anti-corrosion lifetime of modern vehicles has improved tremendously through a combination of better paint systems and standardised zinc coatings for automotive steel.

Now, with the introduction of advanced zinc-magnesium coatings, anti-corrosion lifetime can be optimised at lower cost and with a better environmental footprint. We believe that ZnMg coatings are the future of metallic-coated automotive steel. See what MagiZinc^® can do for you here.

Products

A range of advanced high-strength steels

Tata Steel offers a wide choice of metallic coated steels. Our extensive choice of dimensions, including 1830mm wide strip, provides opportunities for reducing waste and maximising yield.
All steels are available with corrosion-resistant coatings, including the advanced MagiZinc^® coating. Grades for exposed body panels are available in various surface quality levels including GP and FullFinish.

We offer a range of advanced high-strength steels which are available in strengths of up to 800 MPa.

Availability

A cost-effective supply chain

Tata Steel supplies the vast majority of car manufacturers in Europe. From our steelmaking site in the UK we deploy a global transport infrastructure that allows us to supply cost-effectively into various parts of the world.

We supply:

wide coil up to 1830mm, directly to OEMs and Tier 1 manufacturers
slit coil, shaped blanks and tailor welded blanks through our network of service centres

Advanced engineering and total cost of ownership

Tata Steel supports the car industry with advanced engineering services to fully exploit the benefits of advanced steels. We have extensive BIW application knowledge and services to identify weight saving opportunities to lower your total cost of ownership (TCO).

Our TCO Scans identify and quantify the TCO reduction potential that our advanced steels, coatings and lubrications offer for your specific processes and applications. TCO Scans can be used both on an existing part where the emphasis is on improving press shop performance and on new parts yet to start production.
