The importance of transparency and reporting
Transparency is essential to ensure that raw material sourcing, steel processing and product manufacturing doesn’t negatively impact people, places and habitats around the world.
The need for transparency extends to the use of products in buildings, and what happens to them in the end of life stage as well. Tata Steel is leading the way on responsible sourcing and full reporting throughout the supply chain.
Creating the processes we’ll use in 2050
Tata Steel is exploring every avenue to reduce the carbon emissions associated with steelmaking. Our activities include reducing the volume of raw materials required to produce stronger steel, investigating carbon capture and storage techniques, and aiming for the reuse of captured carbon as part of hydrogen-based steelmaking.
Tata Steel is showing the advances that are possible in construction product manufacturing.
Rethinking how we use steel
Designing for the circular economy requires a shift in mindset, focused on optimising the use of resources and taking a long term view on the impact of design and specification decisions.
Tata Steel prioritises ‘the four Rs’ - adding ‘remanufacture’ to the traditional trio of ‘reduce, reuse and recycle’. Life cycle assessment (LCA) is informing the design, manufacture and use of steel products to deliver long-term carbon reductions and sustainability.
