Specifying materials and products to help tackle a climate and biodiversity emergency means asking different questions of manufacturers. Is a product locally manufactured, and are the materials sourced responsibly? Can the product’s origin be traced with full data, and is the environmental impact of the product reported for its complete life cycle?
Mitigating worldwide risks such as child labour and the use of conflict minerals is a key part of Tata Steel’s industry-leading and externally recognised transparency and reporting processes. Our responsible sourcing certification - which encompasses our complete supply chain, from raw material extraction through to our operations and engagement with our local communities - helps build an understanding of raw materials and our responsible operations.
Tata Steel is also the first steel company to be approved as an operator of an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) scheme, providing our customers and stakeholders with an understanding of the environmental impact of our steel products through their entire life cycle.

All Tata Steel manufacturing sites operate energy and environmental management systems to recognised international standards. Site operations and purchasing decisions are all underpinned by the core aim of having the lowest long-term environmental impact.
Tata Steel takes a ‘total cost of ownership’ approach to its operations and provides in-depth environmental reporting for all manufacturing sites.
