Tata Steel UK’s Hartlepool site has announced a donation of £500 to Zarach, a charity dedicated to providing beds for children who do not have one, following a request for support from the town’s MP, Jonathan Brash.

This generous contribution aims to support the vital mission of ensuring that every child has a safe and comfortable place to sleep.

Bed poverty exists when a family doesn’t have the sleeping arrangements they need for their children due to a lack of financial resources. For children in this situation, it has a significant impact on their education.

Zarach’s mission to ensure that every child in England has a bed of their own gives them a greater chance to learn and succeed at school. Tragically, around 1,500 children in Hartlepool do not currently have a bed of their own to sleep in at night.

Since Zarach Charity was set up in 2018, it has provided beds for more than 9,000 children across the country and is already working with Hartlepool schools to deliver bed bundles to children in need.

Now they are forging partnerships with local businesses to assist their funding raising efforts.

Speaking of the partnership, Andrew Ward, Works Manager for Tata Steel UK’s Hartlepool site, stated:

“We are really pleased to be supporting a fantastic charity in Zarach with this donation. This site has always been a big part of the local community, and we remain committed to supporting local causes that make a huge difference in Hartlepool and the surrounding areas.

“I hope this is the beginning of a long partnership with Zarach and one that will support children and families in need.”

Helen Kenneally, Zarach’s National Family Engagement Manager visited Tata Steel in Hartlepool recently to accept the donation, she said: “Zarach works tirelessly to eliminate bed poverty, which affects many families in the region. The charity’s efforts help provide not only beds but also essential bedding items, ensuring that children can enjoy a good night’s sleep and a better quality of life.

“I would like to thank Tata Steel and Hartlepool’s MP, Jonathan Brash for making this vital donation possible. Tata Steel’s commitment to community support reflects its dedication to making a positive impact in the areas where it operates.”

The donation is part of a broader initiative to engage with local organisations to secure funding for this much needed cause.

Jonathan Brash MP said: “When Zarach came to meet with me a short time ago to tell me about the heartbreaking stories of Hartlepool children without a bed to sleep, I pledged then and there to do anything I could to help them.

“I have written to a number of businesses in our area and I know many are already interested in helping and I am delighted that Tata Steel have donated this money, which will make a massive difference to children’s lives in our town. I would encourage anyone who wants to make a donation to get in touch with my office and we will direct you to this wonderful charity. They are doing incredible work.”
