Overview
Nothing is more important than the health and safety of our people and those that interact with our activities, including employees, contractors, customers, suppliers and local communities.

Health and Safety is a multidisciplinary field concerned with the safety, health and wellbeing of people. Health and safety aims to create and maintain safe, healthy environments for people to work and live in by identifying, assessing, and controlling potential hazards and risks. At Tata Steel UK it encompasses a range of areas, including Occupational Safety, Occupational Health, Wellbeing and Process Safety.

Protecting our people reduces incidents and absences and helps to ensure the workplace is more efficient and productive, but most importantly it means we can start work safe and healthy and go home safe and healthy.  Responsibility for health and safety starts with each one of us and we all have a duty of care for ourselves and others.

Our vision is for Tata Steel UK to be recognised as a leader in promoting and maintaining the health and safety of our people. We are aspiring for Zero Harm, for us this means no injury, ill health or incident caused by our work activities, and reaching beyond to create a culture of caring.

Health & Safety management system
The standards and expectations for health and safety management are set within our Health and Safety Management System

The Health and Safety Management System provides the overall direction and framework to manage health and safety risks throughout the business, to prevent incidents and resulting loss with the underlying goal of improving the health & safety culture throughout the organisation.

Our current Health and Safety Management System contains 15 Principles which form the foundation of it's framework, for each of the principles a number of requirements have been formulated to structure a systematic approach to managing health and safety and preventing incidents. An integrated health and safety management system will ensure a consistent approach to health and safety throughout the organisation.

We are in the process of transitioning to ISO 45001, with some of our sites already achieving certification.
