Carbon Lite represents a unique solution for customers in the form of a flexible, lower CO2 building product offerings for your projects.
Optemis™ Carbon Lite is our flexible, declaration-based steel solution which contributes directly to your Scope 3 emission reductions. A fully certified in-setting scheme verified by leading assurance organisation DNV, the emission reductions you specify will enable you to meet LETI, RIBA and SBTi targets. Similarly, these reductions feed into BREEAM and LEED accreditation.
A key feature of our Optemis™ journey is the reinvestment of 100% of revenue made from the sale of Optemis™ Carbon Lite declarations into new decarbonisation projects, delivering yet further CO2 emission reductions, which DNV will verify to feed into the scheme.
By buying OptemisTM Carbon Lite from Building Systems UK, you will be actively contributing to a reduction in atmospheric CO2 and driving further decarbonisation.
The answer is simple... direct decarbonisation of your supply chain
- Buying Optemis™ Carbon Lite products contributes to an actual reduction in atmospheric CO2
- The schemes CO2 savings are real. They have been made and verified by DNV
- 100% of revenue from declarations sold will fund new decarbonisation projects and accelerate the pace of steelmaking decarbonisation
- The CO2 savings purchased can help you achieve your own targets for CO2 emissions reduction including SBTi, LETI and RIBA, as well as towards BREEAM and LEEED accreditation
- You can flex the number of declarations bought to achieve the desired carbon footprint
- The CO2 emissions reductions will be reflected in improved EPD figures when the EPDs are refreshed
How we work out the figures…
- The calculated CO2 savings are based on Tata Steel UK’s actual performance, not European average figures
- Absolute reductions are calculated relative to Tata Steel EPDs produced according to the worldsteel methodology and aligned to ISO standards
- Achievable reductions are restricted to those ‘made inside the boundaries of Tata Steel production facilities’, to ensure the CO2 impact of purchased goods such as ores, alloys, coatings and other products are not inadvertently included
- By linking reductions to product carbon footprints and not site emissions, the scheme avoids double counting of CO2 emissions
