A new season of the Tata Steel Wizards League is again a highlight of Port Talbot school calendars.
Incorporating every school in Port Talbot and Briton Ferry, the Wizards League is a competitive league run by Aberavon RFC, involving classroom sessions focused on healthy eating and wellbeing, as well as rugby and netball skills sessions. It all culminates in league games and a one-day tournament - the Tata Steel Cup, in March.
The league has been running since 2010, providing opportunities for more children to be involved in sport, with every team receiving free kit and access to resources.
Speaking of this year’s launch, Tata Steel Public Affairs and Community Manager, Lewis Clark, said: “We’re proud to continue our relationship with Aberavon RFC and support this great initiative.
“The Tata Steel Wizards League provides huge opportunities for young people to participate in sport, removing some of the barriers and making it accessible for all. We are confident that this year will be bigger and better, and we can’t wait to get the season started.”
Chris Davies, Commercial and Marketing Manager at Aberavon RFC, said: “We would like to say a big thank you to Tata Steel for once again partnering with us on the Wizards League scheme.
“The support from Tata Steel is invaluable, allowing us to provide every team with kit and resources for the league and skills sessions. We are looking forward to another fantastic year.”
