April saw Tata Steel UK host the annual Richard Burton 10K presentation evening, celebrating the 42nd anniversary of the epic road race and celebrating all those great causes that were recipients of this year’s money raised.
Race organisers Shaun and Anna Tobin led proceedings, offering an insight into the history of the race and emphasising the importance of supporting the local community.
Shaun said: “2024 marked another fantastic event, with record numbers of runners and money raised. A massive thank you to all of our runners, supporters and race volunteers. A particular thanks goes to Tata Steel UK and Runtech for once again sponsoring the day.
“As always, every penny raised from the event will go back into the community and to local charities.
“I am incredibly proud of this event and the difference it makes. We’re already looking towards the 2025 race, entries for which are now open, and continuing to make a difference locally.”
Martin Brunnock, Director of Communications and Public Affairs at Tata Steel added: “The Richard Burton 10K is the highlight of Tata Steel UK’s community calendar.
“Evenings like this remind us all at Tata Steel why giving back to the community is such an important part of what we do. A big thank you to the Richard Burton 10K committee for all their efforts and to those good causes that make such a positive difference locally.”
This year’s race raised a massive £60,000 for good causes, ranging from Blood Bikers Wales and Port Talbot Panthers, to providing funding for seriously ill-children and their families.
In attendance on the evening was Richard Burton’s granddaughter, Charlotte. Speaking of the event and her families ties to the area, Charlotte said: “I am immensely proud of my Welsh roots and it’s a privilege to be here tonight to celebrate with such brilliant charities and good causes.
“Thank you all for coming out to celebrate and for everything you do to champion my grandfather’s hometown and his legacy.”
Entries for the 43rd Richard Burton 10K, taking place on Sunday 2nd November 2025, are now open.
This year’s race will mark the 100th birthday of Richard Burton, making it an event not to miss. For more information and to register for Wales’ most famous road race please visit: https://www.richardburton10k.co.uk/
