Employee networks, such as Magnet and the Steel Women's Network, play a vital role in fostering a positive work environment and maintaining strong employee engagement. These networks provide a platform for employees to connect, support one another, and drive positive change within Tata Steel UK.

Who are we?

We are a close-knit community of Tata Steel employees aspiring to connect and enhance the working lives of like-minded young professionals!

Why are we doing this?

We have a vision to empower, develop and connect the young professionals of Tata Steel -  our future leaders, and specialists through fun and inspirational events!

From workshops to seminars, site visits, monthly hikes - and much, much more - we want to cultivate a strong network, encouraging the exchange of not just knowledge and skills - we also want to put the social aspect back in work!

What's in it for you?

Whether you want to broaden your network and make new friends by meeting colleagues in different functions, works areas or sites across the UK, progress in your career or attend regular fun and engaging events, there's something for everyone in Magnet UK.

Where can I find you?

While a number of the Magnet UK Committee are based between Port Talbot and Llanwern, we have members spanning across all of our UK sites.

Meet the Magnet UK Team:

Following a successful restructure this year, Magnet UK - Tata Steel's Network for Young Professionals - have just celebrated an unforgettable relaunch event which took place in May. Their first “Meet and Greet”, hosted at Port Talbot’s Main Canteen was met with excellent praise, but it’s clear that the group have an appetite to go further, broaden their network and ensure young people are kept engaged across the UK.

Joe Tobin, Magnet Chair and Arisings Coordinator said: “It was great to meet so many people from all over the business at working in different roles who want to support and get involved.“Not only did we have plenty of sign-ups as a result of our first event, but it was great to see members of senior management come along to support the exciting work we’ve got planned.”

Magnet UK this summer are going to great heights for their local communities, on their most recent challenge.

The group recently banded together for a 12km hike through Port Talbot's stunning mountains in preparation for their Welsh Three Peaks Challenge this Autumn.

This is all in support of local charities such as the Teleri Mai Foundation.

So, what next?

In the past, Magnet offered bitesize wisdom through its weekly lunchtime lectures. So, we’re delighted to be reintroducing the series. Kicking things off is Port Talbot’s Paul Burton, who’ll be sharing highlights from his 23-year-long (and counting) steel career: “From fresh faced graduate to Head of Technical” on Tuesday 21 September.

There’s also our upcoming beach-clean at Morfa Beach, which we’ll be hosting in partnership with Let’s Tidy Wales. We’re never afraid to get stuck in – and this feels like another perfect opportunity to give back to our community. We’d be thrilled if you joined us there in your wellies on 8 October to clear the sands of litter and debris (don’t worry, the litter pickers are on us).

And we can’t forget the event we’ll be running in partnership with Tata Steel’s Mental Health First Aiders and the Steel Women’s Network, to mark World Mental Health Day (10 October). There’ll be a range of fantastic guest speakers including the brilliant Ryan Williams, a local Mental Health Nurse and Independent Nurse Prescriber.

Anyone is welcome to listen in and have a chat over lunch to help break the stigma around mental health.

…And those are just a few of the highlights!

Steel Women's Network

The Steel Women's network is an inclusive, professional network that was established to support and encourage women in our industry.
Their primary aim is to Inspire, Inform, Involve, Influence through activities, events, sharing opportunities and much more.
The network is open to all.

The Steel Women’s Network embodies the principle of an employee-led group that advocates for and supports an underrepresented group within Tata Steel UK.

The group gives the women in our industry a voice and aims to:

  • Support women across the business
  • Celebrate women in the workplace
  • Up-skill women in the workplace
  • Raise awareness of the challenges for women in the workplace and educates employees on allyship and how to support women in the workplace
