Overview

Ferrite-bainite – HR FB590-UC

HR FB590-UC is a ferrite-bainite advanced high-strength steel offering excellent formability characteristics. It is particularly suited to automotive chassis and suspension applications where a combination of superior strength and fatigue performance is required on relatively complex-shaped parts. HR FB590-UC offers a high hole expansion capacity (HEC) and high tensile strength – ideal for components with a significant amount of edge stretching. The tensile strength levels deliver excellent fatigue resistance as an additional benefit.

Relationship with standards

Tata Steel can supply the following hot-rolled advanced and ultra high-strength steel grades:

Applications

  • upper and lower control arms
  • engine sub-frames
  • other chassis and suspension components
  • twist beam rear axles
  • wheels

Strength and ductility

Utilising the superior combination of strength and ductility of Tata Steel’s advanced steel portfolio can yield significant lightweighting potential. Component shapes which were previously considered too challenging to make, are now a possibility. This enables designers to integrate high strength and durable materials into their designs to fully unlock the potential of steel.

Increased performance

Application of our advanced steel grades – in place of lower strength, conventional steel grades - can lead to the increased performance of finished components.

Weight reduction

Application of our advanced steel with a lower thickness - in comparison with lower strength, conventional steel grades - can help reduce component weight without compromising performance. This can increase your output per tonne of steel.

Product choice

Our hot-rolled advanced and ultra high-strength steels include ferrite-bainite, complex phase and hot forming steel grades.

Shape and dimensional tolerances

Shape and dimensional tolerances

The specified values for wide strip do not apply to the uncropped ends of the coil (‘head’ and ‘tail’). The length of these uncropped ends is calculated using the following formula:

length (in metres) = 90/nominal thickness (in mm), with a maximum of 20 metres.

If required, this part of the coil can be removed, however an additional cost may be charged for this.

Tolerances on thickness

Tata Steel can supply to full thickness tolerance specified in EN 10051:2010.

Tolerances  in mm for wide strip and slit wide strip
The tolerances for wide strip and slit wide strip comply with standard EN 10051:2010.

Edge camber

The deviation from the edge over a length of 5000mm:

• with mill edges, no more than 20mm
• with trimmed edges, no more than 15mm

Flatness

Requirements as regards flatness can be agreed at the time of enquiry.
