Many hands make light work in Shotton

For the past few weeks, eager groups of volunteers have willingly sacrificed their Saturday mornings to help clear rubble from the inside and outside of Shotton’s historic John Summers Building.

Now in the hands of the charity Enbarr Foundation, the building has been awaiting a well- deserved makeover for some time. And now the charity is determined to restore it to its former glory by transforming it into a bustling community hub.

More than 60 volunteers from Shotton Works – as well as helpers from local businesses and the surrounding areas – turned out and got their hands dirty for the good of their community, with all work carried out in a Covid-friendly manner.

Bill Duckworth, Site Manager Shotton, said: “Thank you very much to those who have given their time and energy – you have all made a real difference.“The site is ‘open’ for the help of volunteers every Saturday morning at 10am, so feel free toget involved. As a site, we will earmark a series of dates to offer our full support, with the aim of encouraging a good turnout.”

Volunteer and H Shotton Contractor Gemma Hill said: “I have always wanted to explore the old John Summers Building and now I’ve been lucky enough to do just that as part of the volunteer group.”

Do you live local and happen to find yourself in the spring cleaning mood? Why not pop along to lend a helping hand? Keep your eyes peeled for further updates on this exciting restoration project.
