Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council (NPTCBC) has sponsored and created a central web-based hub of resources to help workers, families, businesses and communities across Wales who might be affected by the restructuring proposals being put forward by Tata Steel.
The communications hub, which is an output of the Transition Board, focuses on Support for people, Information for businesses, and Skills and opportunities. It also includes more information on the Transition Hub, Tata Steel’s plans to decarbonise, and information for partner organisations providing support.
Chris Owen, Chief Digital Officer NPTCBC whose team developed the hub said: “The council is a key partner in the Tata Steel Transition Board, and has a critical role to play in helping people in our communities find the support and guidance they need through difficult times.”
The communications hub focuses on Support for people, Information for businesses, and Skills and opportunities.
Already there are a number of drop-in support hubs being publicised through the website and on social media, and a dedicated contact email has been set up mailto:Tatatransition@npt.gov.uk
Chris added: “With so many people in Tata Steel, contractor partners and local business likely to be affected by the changes at Tata Steel, we have reached out to collaborate with service providers, charities and businesses across the region.

“We’ll now be asking other local authorities, governments and trades union partners to help publicise the hub so that as many people as possible can easily get the support they need.”
Tata Steel UK’s Director of Communications, Martin Brunnock added: “This is exactly the sort of activity the Transition Board was designed for – to help and support anyone affected by the changes being made at Tata Steel UK.
He continued: “There is a lot of other work going on through the Board’s workstreams in terms of attracting inward investment, developing the local area and helping with training and skills.”
“It is still early days, but we hope soon to have a better understanding about those people who may wish to retire or leave voluntarily, and those who will be looking to find a new job or set up on their own.
“We greatly appreciate all the support from organisations involved in the Transition Board, and this information and support hub is a great start.”
