Around 1,000 youngsters will help to revitalise the Olympic triathlon legacy in an event at the London Aquatics Centre and Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on July 14.
The children, aged 8 to 13, are preparing to swim, cycle and run in the final event in this year’s Tata – Kids of Steel triathlon series. The series is in its ninth year and has visited ten venues across Great Britain in 2015, giving up to 10,000 children the free opportunity to experience a mini-triathlon in a fun and safe environment.
Organisers British Triathlon and Tata Steel will be carrying on the work started by the London 2012 Olympic Games to “inspire a generation” by holding the final event of the 2015 series in this prestigious Olympic setting.
Tata Steel’s Director of Corporate Communications and Public Affairs, Sytske Seyffert said: “We are now continuing the work started by London 2012 to inspire a generation by holding our final Tata – Kids of Steel triathlon event of the year in this prestigious setting.
“We supplied thousands of tonnes of British-made steel to build flagship Olympic venues, including the Aquatics Centre, main Olympic Stadium, and Basketball Arena. After helping to create the physical legacy of the London games, we now want to contribute to its sporting legacy.”
The Tata – Kids of Steel series is part of Tata Steel’s Community Partnership Programme, in which the company strives to enrich the communities in which it operates. The series reached a major milestone this year when the 70,000th youngster crossed the finishing line since the series was launched in 2007.
One of the world’s largest and longest running triathlon series, Tata – Kids of Steel aims to encourage youngsters to lead a healthy and active lifestyle by giving children of all abilities the chance to try this fun and dynamic sport.
Adam Bowden from Watford, a member of British Triathlon’s UK Sport Lottery funded World-Class Performance Programme and an ambassador for The British Triathlon Trust, added: “I have been competing in triathlon since 2009 and have seen the popularity of the sport rise every year. London is a city full of triathlon history after the London 2012 Olympic Games and to celebrate the Olympic triathlon legacy by giving future generations the opportunity to try this sport at such an iconic venue, is another landmark moment in my home city.”
Tata Steel has sponsored the British Triathlon Federation since 2006, and is proud to continue its association as its Community Sponsor, supporting Tata – Kids of Steel and having a positive impact on the lives of young people throughout Great Britain.
