For the past three years, SteelCast has charted a modern industrial revolution – a shift from traditional basic oxygen steelmaking towards a greener, sustainable future built on renewables and UK-sourced scrap.
Now, that future is starting to take shape at Port Talbot.
In the latest episode, EAF and Casters Programme Manager Peter Jones offers an exclusive, all-access audio tour of the £1.25 billion electric arc furnace (EAF) programme – sharing a behind-the-scenes look at how one of the UK’s largest industrial transformations is coming to life.
Peter said: “This is more than just installing an electric arc furnace. We’re changing the entire flow of materials, processes, and logistics to support a greener future.”
Listeners can follow the journey from the railhead to the new scrap storage area, along the path of the future steel conveyor, and into the space where a cutting-edge 3.2 million tonne EAF and ladle metallurgy furnaces will operate.
“The scale of this project is difficult to grasp, but we’re already seeing the impact,” said Peter. “I hope the size and complexity of it all comes through in the podcast.
“With more contracts getting signed and more orders being placed, momentum on this project is building very quickly.”
