New Minister for Industry at the Government's Department for Business & Trade, Alan Mak MP, chose to make Tata Steel's Port Talbot steelworks his first ministerial visit, this week.
The new minister for industry said the Government's support for the steel industry was "stronger than ever"
He said: "I'm delighted that my first ministerial visit is to the Port Talbot steelworks."
Mr Mak stopped at the site's Blast Furnaces before going on to see the steelplant and seeing for himself the site for the company's proposed new electric arc furnace.
He continued: "I'm delighted to come and see steelmaking in action and meet some of the people and hear about the future of the steel industry.
So thank you to everyone that works at Port Talbot, who has made it success in the past and we're working together with Tata to make sure that we have a sustainable future for everybody."

NOTES:
The refurbishment of the South Warehouse facility will be undertaken using 19,460m² of Trisomet insulated roof and wall panels and 560m² of architectural Trimapanel from Building Systems UK (a Tata Steel enterprise). The Group organisations, TSUK & BSUK, together with Warmflame & Nicol Thomas Architects have worked for several months reviewing roofing and cladding systems to determine the best solution for this long-term investment, with insulated panels chosen for their durability, strength, and thermal efficiencies. The build will be supported by the Platinum Plus system guarantee, which will ensure not only the principal panels but also the ancillary components are specified for durability thereby ensuring that the new building fabric solution will deliver guaranteed and enduring performance.
