Honouring Tata Steel’s trailblazing women

This week, Tata Steel UK held its first ‘Empowerment Awards’ in recognition of International Women’s Day 2025. 

150 people from across the company came together to celebrate the remarkable achievements and contributions of women across the business. 


The Steel Women’s network hosted the uplifting event and Chief Legal Officer Alastair Page, in his role as their sponsor, introduced the four award categories: 
 

  • Next Generation Change Maker
  • Voice of a Women
  • Inspiration 
  • Allyship in Action


Opening the online awards celebration host Alastair said: “It’s a real honour to host the awards today and to have been invited to judge the nominations, it was an absolute pleasure and thrill to be able to recognise those who've been acknowledged for their contributions.”


“I was particularly struck by the sheer volume of nominations – an incredible 71 in total –submitted for what is our first empowerment awards.”

The Award Winners

Next Generation Change Maker Award: The award celebrates exceptional women, early in their careers and journeys at Tata Steel UK that have demonstrated their commitment to excellence and potential for transformative contributions.  

•    Winner: Hannah Ashton, Area HR Manager
•    Runner up: Georgia Cox, Lead Technician
•    Honourable mention: Kiana Alimohammadi, Technical Specialist  


Voice of a Woman Award: Acknowledging an individual who has made contributions to amplifying women's voices in Tata Steel UK advocating for equality, challenging stereotypes and empowering women across the organisation. 


•    Winner: Abigail Thomas, Public Relations & Social Media Specialist 
•    Runner up: Kathryn Stevenson, Senior Reward & Recognition Manger 
•    Honourable mention: Debbie Jones-Walters, Business & Marketing Manager

Inspiration Award: Recognising female role models in Tata Steel UK who inspire colleagues and deliver impactful change in equality, shaping the future of the organisation. 


•    Winner: Laura Baker, Head of Product Management & Development 
•    Runner up: Jo Evans, Director of Building Systems UK
•    Honourable mention: Rebecca Evans, Health & Safety Officer

Allyship in Action Award: Celebrating advocates, regardless of gender, who actively support equality, creating environments where all individuals in Tata Steel UK feel valued and empowered to contribute. 


•    Winner: Martin Brunnock, Director of Communications & Public Affairs
•    Runner up: Terry Bennett, Head of Commercial Development
•    Honourable mention: Jamie Hillier, Head of Commercial Services

Tata Steel CEO Rajesh Nair closed the awards ceremony: “My congratulations to all the nominees, the runners up, the honourable mentions and the winners today. You should all feel incredibly proud of your achievements, I certainly am. 


“It is important we continue to work towards a truly inclusive organisation. As part of our wider business transformation, culture is critical. Ours is a transformation not just of technology and steelmaking but of mind and culture.”
