Over 2,500m2 of Trisomet® and Trimapanel® roof & wall panel systems and profiles have gone into the construction of the new Three Lions Yard warehouse at St Georges Park in Burton on Trent. The state-of-the-art, 10,000-square-foot facility will support operations at the Football Association’s national football centre. This new facility will provide all of England’s teams with a new logistics, storage and ground maintenance centre, and will be a valued addition to their state-of-the-art facilities.
Designed by HSSP Architects, the new two storey building brings together various on-site functions to create a singular hub that is both stylish and practical.
The clever design allows for delivery vehicles to drive into the warehouse area, to load or unload under cover, and to exit in the same straight direction, thereby creating an efficient and safe logistics process.
The building needed to provide a secure area to receive deliveries to support England’s training ground operations. A durable yet aesthetically pleasing solution was needed which complied with the national teams existing colours.
Providing a solution that optimised CO2 performance both in the build, and in operation, was a key element of the brief, along with a building that is durable for its multi decade use with minimal maintenance – again reducing both embodied and operational CO2.
Building Systems UK’s Trisomet® trapezoidal and Trimapanel® architectural panel systems made up the wall and roof elements. The Colorcoat HPS200 Ultra® Colorcoat® coating on the panel systems provided an array of colours to reflect those of the national football team. A flexible colour range is essential in a project such as this with the use of Sargasso, Chili Red, Goosewing Grey, Anthracite, White, Solent Blue and Alaska Grey. The final result is a striking look and a strong identity.
The brief looked to minimise the environmental impact of the building in regenerating the elected site. Reducing both the embodied and operational carbon of the building starts with an accurate understanding of the performance of the product and final building. Building Systems UK’s Trisomet® and Trimapanel® roof and wall panels are available with Type III EN 15804 Environmental Product Declarations (EPD’s) – the highest standard of EPD available – and clients are supported by the fact that Building Systems UK, a Tata Steel enterprise, operate a full EPD programme with the capability to generate bespoke and project specific EPD’s.
Chilli Red 90mm Trimapanel® steel insulated wall panels were used for the majority of the outer walls (0.24 U-value) along with a combination of 80mm (0.25 U-value) and 120mm (0.16 U-value) Merlin Grey Trisomet® steel insulated roof panels for the whole roof area. These panel systems offer highly consistent insulation performance, providing a sustainable solution in terms of improved energy performance of the building.
Safety was and is always key – both systems have undergone the most stringent of fire testing and are certified compliant with the stringent fire standards of LPCB and FM Approvals, these internationally recognized, fully independent 3rd party fire and mechanical resistance testing and certification schemes that include full scale testing programme to ensure full compliance and performance.
To provide the client with further peace of mind this project also comes with a full multi decade systems guarantee. Platinum® Plus, Building Systems UK’s roof and wall cladding system guarantee provides assurance in the performance of the roofing and wall cladding systems and all the ancillary components for 25 years. In addition, the HPS200 Ultra finish on the Colorcoat® pre-finished steel system carries a Confidex® 40-year guarantee.
