With more than 1,500 units, Shurgard Greenwich is one of the largest self-storage facilities in Europe. Spread over four floors the facility provides dry, clean and secure self-storage in a secure facility, and the building also achieved an BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating.
The challenge
A sustainable building envelope that would protect the self-storage units from the elements, and one that would not only maximise BREEAM credits but would also achieve the tight build timescale required (three months).
The solution
Shurgard maintains a generic build for all of its self-storage facilities and required an economic solution that was cost-effective, and in its corporate colours.
It was Building Systems UK (A Tata Steel Enterprise)’s established working relationship with Hadleigh Barbour that saw them put forward an alternative building envelope solution that was comparable do what was being specified, and one that they were successful in securing.
Around 3,000m2 of Trimapanel® flat insulated panels manufactured using Colorcoat HPS200 Ultra® pre-finished steel was used to clad the external face of the Greenwich Shurgard unit, meeting all the clients requirements and complying with current Building Regulation standards.
Building Systems UK also supplied 3,000m2 of ComFlor® 60 floor decking, used throughout the facility and installed by Composite Profiles. The use of Trimapanel® flat on the walls and ComFlor® 60 for the structural floor slabs facilitated the high quality and high speed construction required, both solutions provide rapid installation.
