The 2024 Greenbuild International Conference and Expo (this year being held in Philadelphia) aims to be a cutting-edge community for global green building professionals. Established as one of the largest annual events for green building worldwide, attendees can keep track of latest trends and developments in sustainable construction, network with like-minded professionals and gain insights into how to drive sustainability the built environment.

The theme for Greenbuild 2024 is around ‘Built to Scale’, with a commitment to continuing the momentum of the green building movement and ensuring the construction sector meets the challenges of our time.

The attendance of Colorcoat® as silver sponsor of the USGBC Experience at Greenbuild serves to introduce its range of pre-finished steel products to the North American building envelope market, furthered by the recent appointment of David McRae as Market Development Manager for Colorcoat®. Overseeing North America, including Canada and Mexico, David’s role is focussed around supporting key specifiers and influencers within the building envelope supply chain.

Greenbuild 2024 is also an opportunity for the pre-finished steel manufacturer to demonstrate its commitment to sustainability, having taken numerous steps to reduce its carbon footprint and environmental impact of its operations in Shotton, United Kingdom since the launch of the site’s sustainability commitment in 2022.

Tata Steel in the UK made a landmark announcement last year, setting out its intent to transition from blast furnace-based steelmaking at its steelmaking site in the UK at Port Talbot, to state of the art electric arc furnace (EAF) based steelmaking. The transition will be underpinned by a huge investment of  £1.25 ($1.65) billion investment which includes a government grant. This will be the single largest investment in UK steelmaking in decades. Not only will it secure a long-term future for steelmaking at Port Talbot, the transition will reduce direct CO2 emissions from the site by almost 90% (scope 1) - around five million tonnes per year - with the start-up phase being late 2027-2028.

This exciting investment will enable Tata Steel to offer its market-leading Colorcoat® pre-finished steel products with electric arc substrate, reducing the product’s carbon footprint by between 50 and 60%. Renowned across the industry for offering enhanced durability, corrosion resistance and aesthetics, Colorcoat® products are used globally for building envelope, roof and wall cladding systems in a wide range of industrial and commercial buildings.

Speaking about the event, David McRae, Market Development Manager for Colorcoat® at Tata Steel, said: “Greenbuild marks a fantastic opportunity to inspire, learn and empower each other to make a lasting positive impact. With the latest investments and innovations, we’re all doing our bit to create the greener buildings and infrastructure of the future.

“We’re delighted to be a part of the USGBC presence at the exhibition and conference. We look forward to attending some of its dedicated membership forums, such as the Public Sector Roundtable, where we will join other like-minded industry leaders to discuss best practice solutions for the sector and explore how we can build better value together.”

Greenbuild 2024 takes place in Philadelphia from 12-15th November 2024, with the Public Sector Roundtable held on 14th November at 8am.
